The European Commission has now published the Regulation that confirms the UK’s rights to continue with tall trailers. This puts the concluding touches to an agreement reached in the first half of last year, which meets UK needs within EU rules by allowing a huge increase in National Small Scale Type Approval.
The RHA has worked closely with the DfT in lobbying Brussels from September 2010, when the threat of a four metre height limit on new trailers first surfaced.
Without this decision the HGV sector would have been thrown into chaos with manufacturers forced to bring in vehicles with a height of no more than 3.8m and hauliers having to rethink their payload.
