Auto Windscreens has improved the safety of its drivers in the event of road traffic incidents by installing SmartWitness accident cameras in all its vehicles.

They’re fitted in 340 vans and cars used by Auto Windscreens’ glass fitters and repair technicians. They record video footage and monitor driving styles and speeds. The data, stored on a secure SD card, can be reviewed when required.

Auto Windscreens’ MD Chris Thornton, said: “Driving standards are essential to any fleet and our investment in SmartWitness cameras is part of our commitment to promote better driving behaviours of our technicians. It will help safeguard them in the event of accidents that aren’t their fault and identify if any retraining is needed.”

The main purpose of the cameras used by Auto Windscreens is to provide evidence when RTCs occur, so false claims can be avoided and proof provided where no witnesses are present. It’s also developed into a training tool, since video footage can be used to check driver behaviour, helping them spot if any improvements are required.

“We’ve already received positive feedback from our drivers. They say they offer reassurance, eliminating the potential for them to be falsely accused of causing a crash,” added Chris.
