Midlands Truck & Van launches night-time MoTs

“We’ll MoT your vehicle while you sleep!” That’s the great new offer being made to local operators of vans and minibuses, as well as car owners, by Mercedes-Benz dealer Midlands Truck & Van.

The company had already introduced a night-time MoT testing service at its dealership in Whitley, Coventry. And starting this week (1st October), this has been extended to cover its headquarters in Aston, Birmingham, and its Willenhall, Wolverhampton branch. The move means customers will no longer have to take their commercial vehicles off the road to get them tested during the day, when they could be out earning.

McLaren F1 Backs Automotive Skills Finalists

McLaren F1 has shown their support for the UK’s top young automotive technicians by inviting the winners of the 2012 Skillauto competition to visit McLaren’s Technology centre in Surrey. The Skillauto competition, organised by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), is the national competition which seeks to find the best young technicians in the fields of mechanical repair, car body repair and car painting through a knockout competition.

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has announced a series of nationwide events to promote awareness of careers in the retail automotive industry to education professionals.  A key objective of the programme is to challenge perceptions of the industry and its need to attract high calibre students.  Skills are a crucial issue for the motor industry and it is essential that the sector attracts bright, enthusiastic and self-motivated young people that are suitably qualified in numeracy, literacy, science and ICT.
